Chinese Writing Stone Tumbled Stone

This is a fascinating and unusual stone !

The black is a Limestone matrix and the white inclusions are elongated crystals of Andalusite. In fact if you look really closely, the black Limestone sometimes has a deep green sheen to it.

The white crystals are very easy to see and when larger crystals of one mineral are included in a fine grained matrix of another mineral, the resulting rock is called Porphyry, and you may sometimes hear this stone called that.

The white inclusions here are not only very easy to see but they are also very angular, irregular and are often close together making them rather look like the characters used in oriental writing - hence the much more popular name for this stone.

These are good sized large stones.
