This superb polished pebble has been shaped from the Petrified Wood of pre-historic trees.

Petrified Wood is formed when an ancient tree falls over and becomes covered in dust, sand, gravel etc and later in time, has water running over it. The water drips through the gravel and hits the tree and the minerals in the water and the rocks dissolve into the wood of the tree. Slowly, over hundreds of thousands or even millions of years, and atom by atom, these dissolved minerals will replace the wood of the tree with stone. It will become Petrified, literally meaning turned to stone.

It's polished to a lovely shine and has a smooth finish, well apart from a few tiny surface indentations here and there, which is rather the character of the stone !
