This is a gorgeous slice of Petrified Wood, nicely polished on both sides.

Petrified Wood is formed when a tree has, over millions of years, turned to stone, i.e. it has petrified - literally turned to stone. Slices like this are very frequently, although incorrectly, often called Fossilised Wood.

Look at that pattern, is that a cross, or perhaps the body of a dragonfly with outlines of it's wings !

This particular piece has a great, deep "woody" colour and a very interesting pattern indeed.
