Really Large Colour Change Fluorite
Colour Change Fluorite This Large piece (and it is a Large piece! ) is an amazing piece of Fluorite from the Diana Maria Mine in the Rogerley Quarry, Weardale, County Durham in the North of England. It is essentially Green Fluorite when you look at it indoors or under artificial lighting. But outdoors, in the sunlight, it becomes Blue/Purple Fluorite - as you can clearly see from the first 2 photographs ! "Pure" Fluorite is actually colourless, it is the inclusion of several mineral impurities that give us the many colours of Fluorite, green, purple, yellow, blue, banded or striped, that we all know and love. Sometimes these impurities resonate or react with different wavelengths of light and you get this colour change effect. A proportion of the Fluorite from the Diana Maria mine and the Rogerley Quarry exhibit this effect, making pieces from these locations both rare and extremely sought after ! The first time you make a piece of Fluorite change colour, simply by walking outside with it, is truly amazing and verging on the fantastic ! This is a truly beautiful piece.
