Ilvaite crystals are relatively rare these days.
This rarity is because Ilvaite is only found in a few countries around the world. It also requires very specific chemical, temperature, and pressure conditions to form at all, meaning that it is much less likely to form than other well known minerals. Lastly, when it does form, it rarely produces nice crystals.
This piece IS a nice crystal, in fact it's gorgeous !
This wonderful piece comes from The Huanggang Fe-Sn Deposit, Ulanhad League, Inner Mongolia, China.
It is just what you want Ilvaite to look like. Jet black, with smaller crystals growing along and across the sides, and a wonderfully terminated top to the crystal !
It widens from the base to the top.
This is a gorgeous crystal of Ilvaite and truly one for lovers of the rare and the unusual !
